On April 16, acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler appeared on Last Podcast on the Left, hosted by Henry Zebrowski and Eddie Pepitone. Coogler joined the podcast to discuss his latest film, Sinners, which is currently receiving critical acclaim with an impressive 8.1 rating on IMDb.
As previously reported by X-Files Wiki, Coogler has been quietly developing a new installment in The X-Files franchise. During the podcast, he officially confirmed for the first time that he is indeed attached to a reboot of the iconic series.
"I'm working on X-Files," Coogler stated. "That's what's immediately next. I've been excited about that for a long time, and I'm fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our job right, will be really scary."
When asked whether he had been in touch with Gillian Anderson, Coogler confirmed their communication:
"I've spoken to the great Gillian Anderson, yes. She's incredible — fingers crossed for her. I can't wait to see her in Tron; I just saw the trailer. When I spoke to her, she was finishing that up. We're going to try to make something really great — something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe bring in some new ones as well."
According to the latest news, original X-Files creator Chris Carter will not be participating in this project in any form. Therefore, this will mark the very first time that the X-Files will be completely handled by another producer.
