STORY
"Antipas" is a dark, suspenseful episode that explores themes of evil, seduction, and the struggle between good and malevolent forces. The episode brings back the enigmatic and sinister character of Lucy Butler, a recurring antagonist in *Millennium*, whose connection to Frank Black is both deeply personal and terrifying.
The episode begins with a chilling scene at the opulent estate of a wealthy couple, the Caulfields. In the dead of night, the husband, William Caulfield, is found dead in his bed, with signs of a brutal attack. His wife, named Divina, appears distraught, claiming to have witnessed a monstrous figure in their bedroom before her husband’s death. The horrific nature of the death immediately raises suspicions of something supernatural at play.
Frank Black, who has been trying to distance himself from the Millennium Group, is drawn back into this dark world when he learns that Lucy Butler, a woman he believes to be the embodiment of pure evil, is somehow involved. Lucy has haunted Frank for years, appearing in various forms, always connected to death and destruction. Frank knows that Lucy is far more than she appears, potentially a demonic entity with the ability to manipulate and destroy lives.
Frank travels to the Caulfield estate to investigate, suspecting that Lucy is once again responsible for a heinous act. As Frank delves deeper into the case, he discovers that Divina Caulfield is not who she seems. She is, in fact, Lucy Butler, who has assumed yet another identity. Lucy has ingratiated herself into the Caulfields' lives, seducing William and positioning herself to take control of his wealth and power. Her presence is a calculated move to spread chaos and further her own dark agenda.
Frank’s investigation is complicated by the fact that Lucy Butler is not just a physical threat but a psychological one as well. She is a master manipulator, using her charm, beauty, and intelligence to ensnare those around her. She targets Frank personally, exploiting his fears, guilt, and unresolved grief over the death of his wife, Catherine. Lucy’s connection to Frank is deeply personal, as she seems to take pleasure in tormenting him, making him question his sanity and moral convictions.
As Frank digs deeper, he uncovers evidence that Lucy has been systematically eliminating those who stand in her way, using her seductive powers and supernatural abilities to manipulate and control. She has a particular interest in corrupting innocence and destroying families, reflecting her malevolent nature. Her influence extends beyond the Caulfield estate, as Frank learns that other mysterious deaths have occurred in her wake, all tied to her insidious presence.
The tension escalates when Frank realizes that Lucy’s ultimate goal is not just to gain power but to destroy him as well. She begins to target Jordan, Frank’s daughter, knowing that Frank’s greatest fear is losing her. This threat to Jordan forces Frank to confront Lucy directly, leading to a confrontation that is as much about psychological warfare as it is about physical danger.
In the climactic scenes, Frank faces off against Lucy at the Caulfield estate. The setting is eerily reminiscent of past encounters with her, filled with a sense of impending doom. Lucy, in her seductive and taunting manner, tries to break Frank’s resolve, attempting to lure him into a trap where he might either kill her and lose his own soul in the process or be destroyed by her. The battle between them is one of wits and willpower, with Frank struggling to maintain his moral compass in the face of Lucy’s overwhelming evil.
The episode concludes with Frank narrowly escaping Lucy’s clutches, but not before she disappears once again, leaving behind only chaos and unanswered questions. Lucy’s departure is as mysterious as ever, leaving Frank with the haunting realization that she is still out there, watching and waiting for the next opportunity to strike.
"Antipas" ends on a somber note, with Frank returning to his home, more determined than ever to protect Jordan from the dark forces that seem to be closing in on them. The episode underscores the ongoing battle between good and evil, and the idea that some forms of evil are not easily defeated but must be continually confronted.
"Antipas" is a key episode in *Millennium* that delves into the mythology of Lucy Butler and her complex relationship with Frank Black. It is a tense and atmospheric story that explores the nature of evil, the vulnerabilities of those who fight against it, and the personal toll such a battle takes. The episode is memorable for its psychological depth, its exploration of seduction and manipulation, and the chilling presence of Lucy Butler, who remains one of the series' most enigmatic and terrifying villains.

After an extremely poor start to the season, MillenniuM is suddenly back in the spotlight with three excellent episodes in a row!
This episode sees the return of Lucy Butler, and it all works very well. I particularly liked the mansion and the story, which, though simplistic, works very well.
