BIOGRAPHY
Steve De Jarnatt is an American filmmaker, writer, and director known for his work in both film and television. Born in 1953 in Longview, Washington, De Jarnatt developed a passion for storytelling and the visual arts at an early age. He studied at the American Film Institute, where he honed his skills and prepared for a career in Hollywood.
De Jarnatt gained significant recognition for his 1988 cult classic film, Miracle Mile. The film, a tense and atmospheric thriller, tells the story of a man who accidentally learns about an imminent nuclear attack and has only a short time to find his loved ones before disaster strikes. Miracle Mile was praised for its unique blend of romance, suspense, and apocalyptic dread, and it has since become a beloved entry in the genre of nuclear-themed films. The film is often noted for its innovative storytelling, strong performances, and the way it captures the anxieties of the late Cold War era.
Before Miracle Mile, De Jarnatt had made his directorial debut with the 1989 film Cherry 2000. Though it was completed before Miracle Mile, it was released afterward. This futuristic action-adventure film, set in a dystopian world where relationships are commodified and robots serve as companions, has also garnered a cult following over the years, particularly for its imaginative setting and its exploration of themes related to love, technology, and consumerism.
In addition to his work in film, Steve De Jarnatt has contributed to various television projects. He directed episodes for popular TV series such as ER, The X-Files, and Lizzie McGuire. His television work further showcases his versatility and ability to navigate different genres, from medical dramas to science fiction and family-friendly content.
Although De Jarnatt's filmography is relatively small, his impact on genre cinema and television has been significant. His works continue to be appreciated for their originality, depth, and the way they resonate with audiences long after their initial release.
