 BIOGRAPHY

Claudia Gray is the pen name of Amy Vincent, an American author known for her contributions to the young adult (YA) genre, particularly within the realms of fantasy and science fiction. With a talent for weaving complex characters and immersive worlds, Gray has become a beloved figure in YA literature, gaining a wide readership for her original works as well as her contributions to the Star Wars universe.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Claudia Gray developed a passion for writing at an early age. Her love for storytelling, particularly in the fantasy and science fiction genres, was influenced by her early exposure to a variety of books, films, and television shows that explored speculative themes. Before becoming a full-time author, Gray worked in various fields, including as a lawyer, journalist, and DJ, all of which provided her with a broad range of experiences that she later channeled into her writing.

Gray’s debut novel, Evernight, was published in 2008 and marked the beginning of her successful career as a YA author. The book, which is the first in a series of the same name, explores themes of identity, love, and the supernatural, set against the backdrop of a mysterious boarding school for vampires. The Evernight series, which includes Stargazer, Hourglass, Afterlife, and a companion novel, Balthazar, was well-received by readers and critics alike, establishing Gray as a significant voice in the YA paranormal romance genre.

Following the success of Evernight, Gray continued to write across various subgenres within YA fiction. Her Firebird trilogy, starting with A Thousand Pieces of You in 2014, introduced readers to a science fiction world of parallel universes, where the protagonist embarks on a cross-dimensional quest filled with adventure and romance. The trilogy was praised for its imaginative world-building and intricate plot, further cementing Gray’s reputation as a versatile and creative storyteller.

In addition to her original works, Claudia Gray has made a substantial impact through her contributions to the Star Wars franchise. Her first Star Wars novel, Lost Stars (2015), was part of the "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens" publishing initiative and quickly became a fan favorite. The novel explores the events of the original Star Wars trilogy from the perspective of two star-crossed lovers on opposite sides of the Galactic Civil War, blending epic space opera with deeply personal stories. Gray’s Star Wars work continued with Bloodline (2016), which focuses on Princess Leia in the years leading up to The Force Awakens, and Leia, Princess of Alderaan (2017), which delves into Leia's teenage years and her path to becoming a leader in the Rebel Alliance.

Gray has also contributed to other Star Wars projects, including Master & Apprentice (2019), which explores the relationship between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Into the Dark (2021), part of the Star Wars: The High Republic initiative. Her work within the Star Wars universe has been lauded for its deep character development, strong narrative arcs, and respect for the franchise’s lore.

Throughout her career, Claudia Gray has been celebrated for her ability to craft engaging and emotionally resonant stories, whether in her original creations or within the beloved worlds of established franchises. Her books continue to captivate readers of all ages, and she remains a prominent and influential figure in YA literature.
