Manners began his career in the entertainment industry at a young age, inspired by his father, Sam Manners, a well-known television producer. He started as an assistant director and quickly moved up the ranks, directing episodes for a variety of popular TV shows in the 1980s, including Charlie’s Angels and 21 Jump Street.
However, it was his work on The X-Files that truly defined his legacy. Joining the show in its second season, Manners directed over 50 episodes, becoming one of its most prolific and respected directors. His unique vision and ability to bring out nuanced performances from actors helped cement The X-Files as a cultural phenomenon. His contributions were not limited to directing; he also served as an executive producer in the later seasons, helping to guide the overall direction of the series.
After The X-Files, Manners joined Supernatural in its first season as both a director and executive producer. His influence was crucial in establishing the show's tone and visual style, which contributed to its long-running success.
