I don't know where to start. I have seen the episode only twice, so I don't know it by heart. But definitely the mushroom scene will stay as one of the most horrible moments from the entire series.
How could anyone destroy a character so much is beyond me. I mean, remember what Mulder used to be:
It feels like a very bad fanfic. This is really beyond anything.
What's even worse is that you have to put this scene into perspective, as Fox Mulder is trying to get some information out of a terrorist who was badly injured. The images between the two just simply cannot work.
When watching such episode, one can only think that Chris Carter had become George Lucas. And this episode proved me that it is time that The X-Files continues without its creator. I know this is deeply sad, as I love Chris Carter so much.
