When asked today about the future of The X-Files television series, Gary Newman, FOX CEO and network chairman, announced that "there are no plans to do another season at the moment".
As many of you know, Gillian Anderson repeated many times that she would no longer be portraying FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the future. As a result, showrunner Chris Carter at first said that he would not participate in The X-Files without Gillian Anderson or David Duchovny. But after she closed the door entirely, Carter was starting to be opened on the possibility, leaving his own door opened for a possible 12th season with David Duchovny, who also expressed interest.
Actress Gillian Anderson herself commented today on The X-Files ending with quite an explicit tweet.
While this may be the end of The X-Files for now, the show is known for having stoped many times before, with seasons 7, 9, 10 and 11. So, whatever happens, chances are that there will be new X-Files episodes in the future, but what is sure now is that it will not be in the near future.
And there could also be potential reboots done without Gillian Anderson as well. Who knows...
The truth is out there, always.
