I have just rewatched "The Host". This is the very first episode in which we really see Skinner for a few scenes - the first one being "Tooms" in season 1.

I think that Walter Skinner is a true rock star. I mean, just look at the way he acts, the way he moves, the way he reacts. For sure, this is not a subtle performance. I think that Mitch Pileggi went fully at it and that the result is just great. It could have easily been too much. But I really love watching those scenes between him and Mulder. Especially the one where Mulder complains at the door and Skinner asks Mulder to come inside, then facing a group of seniors at Skinner's conference table.

I really love Skinner. Cannot wait for season 11 to see more of him.

I actually just saw The Host once again and you can clearly see how much the show is about to take a turn onto pulp fiction territory. What I like about it is that the show will grow and grow. But it will also be its demise. I think season 1 was sublime because it wasn't as big in terms of scope. And the more serious and low-key it was, sometimes the better. It's quite the opposite for instance of the end of season 8, where the characters spend their time wandering around the FBI and in the parking lot.
